Paving my way with words
When I was in first grade, I stapled some construction paper together, grabbed a handful of Crayola markers, and wrote a seven-page “book” called The Tiger. My teacher asked me to read it aloud during show-and-tell. My classmates eagerly awaited its sequel.
In high school, my U.S. Government teacher pinned my essay to the classroom corkboard and told my peers to read it. I was mortified.
During my freshman year of college, an English professor pulled me aside after class…yikes. He sat me down, pulled out one of my short stories, compared it to one of his favorite books,* and strongly encouraged me to switch my major from Marketing to English Literature.
*Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis…morbid, I know.
All of these moments felt like little cosmic nudges guiding me toward the world of writing. To me, there’s nothing more rewarding than constructing the perfect string of words. But the real magic is in making people feel seen, understood, and inspired.
My lifelong love for writing has evolved into a passion for shaping brands, telling their stories, and connecting authentically with their audiences. And I’ve been fortunate enough to do so for some of the world’s most influential companies throughout my career.
All this to say…thank you Ms. Kubota, Mr. Petite, and Professor Stack.
